For both fresh and salt water aquariums, Fluval Carbon filter media removes odors, heavy metals, discolorations, contaminations and pollutants. This is high quality carbon so the large porous areas trap minute particles and provide a sieve for mechanically trapping organic wastes.

Fluval activated carbon removes urine, dyes, impurities and leaves your water clean, clear, and sparkling! As a biological filter, carbon provides a place for bacterial colonies to form and thrive. Of course, a couple of cautions; remove carbon when medicating an aquarium or when adding plant fertilizer. Since you cannot tell when carbon loses its ability to filter, you should replace the carbon once a month to maintain active adsorption. Works great with the Fluval 05 series and FX5 filters.
